Col. Levack was a command pilot in the U.S. Air Force flying B-24s in World War II, and C-124s in Korea, and Vietnam. He was Operations Officer for the first Operation Deep Freeze exploring the Antarctica; where he was honored with a mountain named for him "Mount Levack". His second career took him to St Louis, MO, where he worked for many years at the Aeronautical Charts and Information Center. He was an avid golfer for most of his life. Along with his wife, Herbert is survived by two sons and their wives, Daniel (Amy) Levack of Pasadena, CA, and Thomas (Susan) Levack of Wilton, CT. He also leaves five grandchildren, Erin (Mark) Nijmeijer of San Jose, CA, Daniel Levack of Fairfield, CA, Kinley Levack of New York, NY, Alison Levack of Brighton, MA, and Michelle Levack of Portland, OR; and two great-granddaughters, Anneke Nijmeijer and Faith Levack. He is survived by his sister, Sylvia Karotkin of Hartford and was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Griffin. He will be missed by his family and friends. Funeral procession will be Tuesday, February 2, 9:15 a.m. from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. in St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, Hartford. Burial with Military Honors will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the donor's choice.
