Daniel Brodhead, IV
Birth: Oct. 17, 1736
Death: Nov. 15, 1809

Revolutionary War General. Born in Marbletown, New York, Daniel Brodhead started his military career as a commissioned lieutenant colonel for the 8th Pennsylvania regiment of colonial troops. He was recognized for bravery by George Washington at the battle of Long Island and was promoted to colonel upon which he led the defense of Philadelphia. He was made commander of the western department of Pennsylvania overseeing six different forts: Pitt, McIntosh, Laurens, Tuscarora, Henry, and Armstrong. Under his command, his most famous raid was against the Seneca indians. He was made a brigadier general by George Washington after he was acquitted of a court marshal for misappropriation of supply funds. He was one of the founders of the Society of the Cincinnati. (bio by: Mayflower Pilgrim 332)

You were my g-g-g-g-g-g-g-grand uncle on my mother's side and your portrait still hangs in our living room, painted by my grandmother Elizabeth Burns Brodhead. Thank you for your service and sacrifice that birthed our great country.
