Funeral services for Doris Wall, 102, of Elida will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 17, 2009, at the Elida Methodist Church with Rev. Lynn Tusha, Rev. Amy Jordan and Fred Anthony officiating.� Burial will follow in the Elida Cemetery with Herschel Dixon, Travis Nuckols, Dale Rogers, Charles Good, Ronald Berry and Jim Bob Nuckols serving as pallbearers.� Maxine Smith, Dolly Self, Hardin and Nadeen Burris, Kenneth and LaNita Dixon, John and Billie Don Rains, Fred and Molly Anthony, Brenda and Greg Burris, Dr. Robert Timmons and the staff of Heartland Continuing Care Center will be honorary pallbearers.
Doris (Tusha) Wall was born near Elida when it was still the Territory of New Mexico on May 29, 1906, to Rufus Edward and Eliza (Coltrane) Tusha, and died April 14, 2009, in Portales, NM.� Doris was the middle child of 9 children and the last surviving among her siblings.� She was educated in the Elida School System, and graduated from Elida High School in 1924.� While she was still in high school, she and her sisters ran the first telephone office in Elida.
On June 10, 1924, she was married to Embry Wall.� The couple had two children.� Doris worked in the Wall and Sons stores as Bookkeeper, Manager, Supervisor and Clerk in all of the various stores.� Over the years, Doris taught many people bookkeeping, clerking and butchering skills.� She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star.� She was a longtime member of the Elida Woman's Club and worked on committees for more than 70 years in the Elida Methodist Church where she was still a member.� Doris was the first lady on the Roosevelt County Hospital Board and was also one of the first women to be a trustee for the Town of Elida.� The Democratic Party played a major part in her life for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, L. J. "Red" Halliday of Elida; an "adopted son," Jim Meadows of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Cindy Jane Wall, Michael Allen Wall, Kathryn Sue (John) Halliday Moses and Vannie Ray (Jeanette) Halliday; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Kay Moses, Justin Moses, Kisten Moses-Tussey, Chancy Wayne Halliday, Scottee Lyn Halliday, Tallon Mae Halliday, and Jacee Kay Halliday, and five great-great-grandchildren, Joby Tussey, Cami Kemps, Layla Moses, Trent Moses and Emma Moses.�
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Everett, Archie, Ercel, Harold and Donald Tusha; three sisters, Opal Tusha, Lela Gower, Grace Tinnin; her son, Cleo Embry Wall who died in 1988 and by her husband, Embry Wall, who died March 10, 1965.
