Rev. James Asbury Crawley was a Methodist Minister and served as a minister at Springhill Church near Mauk, GA. Served as Justice of the Peace, a Mason and a officer in Georgia Masonic Lodge.

Served as a Pvt. in the C.S.A of Co., "D", 8th. Battalion Georgia Calvary State Guards. Inlisted April 4, 1863, near Zebulon, Pike Co., GA. Served under Capt. Redding's Co., and later became Co., "D", 8th. Battalion, Calvary, Georgia State Guards under Maj. John Stephens. He was discharged Feb. 02, 1864. Sarah Jane "Sallie" LeSueur Crawley received a "widow's" pension for his service. A Confederate marker was placed on his grave.
