VISTA, Calif. — Arch D. Hart, age 92, of Vista, Calif., passed peacefully at his home on June 30, 2011.He was best known on Cape Cod where — from 1944 to 1973 — he developed HART FARM, Nursery and Garden Center in Dennisport. For several years, he also was a research biologist in marine invertebrates at both the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.His main interests were horticulture and agrarianism, which he practiced in a series of four places: Dennisport, the Bahama Islands, Arkansas and Southern California. His agrarianism concept included the permaculture design principles of Mollison in Australia, and of Chadwick at the University of California, Santa Cruz, plus the Bio-Intensive practices at Jeavon's Ecology-Action group in Willits, Calif.Some of his writings that include references to Agro-Ecology are in the archives of the town of Dennis (MA) Historical Society. His extensive botanical and zoological research library will be donated to Alta Vista Gardens in Vista, Calif.He is survived by his wife, Clavel; two sons; a daughter; a stepdaughter (and her two sons); two grandsons; and four great-grandsons.A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, in Vista, Calif.
