Author, Civil War Confederate Officer. As a private with the Confederate Army, he was captured in 1863 during John Hunt Morgan's Ohio raid, but eventually escaped making his way back to the Confederacy by way of Canada. Commissioned a 1st lieutenant, he was sent back to Canada to operate with the Confederate secret service. Young and his raiders escaped into Canada where they were arrested by Canadian authorities but subsequently released. After an exile in Ireland and Scotland, he returned to the U.S. and settled in Louisville, Kentucky in 1868. He became a prominent attorney and civic leader. He was active in Confederate veteran affairs and was a frequent lecturer and contributor of articles. Among his publications was "Prehistoric Man In Kentucky" and "Confederate Wizards of the Saddle." (bio by: Steve Dunn)
