ROCHESTER -- Richard (Ole) Wilford Olson, 78 of Rochester, passed away Sunday at his home.
He was born Nov. 23, 1931, in Fosston, Minn., to Carl and Alma Olson. He attended Fosston High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. He returned to Minnesota, where he lived and worked for the International Harvester dealer in McIntosh, Minn. In 1954, he married Ruby Stiegelmeyer and had four sons: Russell (Ginger) of Erskine, Minn., Rodney (Diane), Robert (Linda) and Randy (Tina), all of Fosston. They later divorced. On Aug. 16, 1968, he married Patricia Homerick and resided in Rochester.
He worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation, retiring in 1997 after 37 years of service. He also served as a member of the Police Reserves and was employed as a driver for Rochester Armored Car. He was also a member of the American Legion. He loved fishing, camping, family get-togethers, and trips with their dear friends, Gladys and Roger Hyke.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his brothers, Howard (Marita) of Oronoco and Lloyd of Fosston; and sister, Gladys Odegarde and Marion Kiefenheim of Red Lake Falls; his four sons; two stepdaughters, Terri (Dennis) Farlow of Rochester and Tami (Bill) Quandt of Grand Meadow; a stepson, Todd (Angie) Homerick of Rochester; grandchildren, Jeff, Mike, Scott, Teresa, Sarah, Kenny, Megan, Brandon, Courtney, Paige, Devin, Sam, Stephanie, Josh, Briana and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Cody, Blake, Lane, Cole, Alyssa, Sam, William, Avery, Lukas, Kylie, Robby, Emaleigh, Jordan, Kayden, Noah, Ethan and Ava; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Clifford.
The funeral service is Friday, Dec. 18, at 10 a.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes' Chapel. There will be a visitation Thursday, Dec. 17, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial is at Oakwood Cemetery.
