Raymond E. Stalnaker, 86, of rural Newkirk, died Wednesday (June 6, 2007) at his apartment at Presbyterian Manor. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Saturday (June 9, 2007) at the Mount Hope United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Hope Cemetery. The Reverend Michael Roberts will officiate.
Raymond was born October 21, 1920, near Geuda Springs to A.O. and Iva (McCormick) Stalnaker. He was reared and educated on the family farm and attended Arkansas City High School graduating in 1938. He later graduated from Arkansas City Junior College (Cowley College) in 1940. Raymond worked in Long Beach, California during WWII building "Liberty Ships". He returned to the family farm after the war and married Patricia Smith on November 30, 1947 in Salina, Kansas. The couple made their home northeast of Newkirk along the Kansas - Oklahoma boarder. Raymond farmed on both sides of the boarder until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Mount Hope United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons George K Stalnaker of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kevin L. Stalnaker of Marion, Iowa; one daughter Sarah Jean "Sally" Armstrong of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and five brothers and sisters.
Memorials have been established with Hospice of North Central Oklahoma or the Mount Hope United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
