Obituary for Nancy L. Schweizer
NANCY L. SCHWEIZER (nee Weidemann)
Mrs. Nancy L. Schweizer, 42, died at Silver Cross Hospital Aug. 26, 1980 after an extended illness. Surviving are her husband, Alvin J., one son, Andrew J., her parents. Clarence and Muriel Weidemann; one brother, Terry (Shirley) Weidemann, all of Elwood; also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece and a nephew.
Nancy lived in Elwood all her life: She attended Elwood Grade School and Joliet Township High School where she graduated in 1956. After graduation from Illinois State University, she taught school in Lockport for three years and for 15 years in Elwood. Elwood School was dismissed for the day in her honor, and the staff attended the funeral services.
Since Nancy had been dispatcher for years for the Elwood Volunteer Fire Department and Jay" has been a fireman for 21 years and chief for 13 years, members of the fire department also attended in a body. Six firemen were pallbearers. They are Jack Burlison, Charles Delehanty, Jack Grzenda, Ed Norcross, John Richie and Ronald Schweizer. Tony Marquez. Jack Kulak and Ray Haldorson were honor guards. Ed LaPage ushered.
Nancy was also a member and deacon of the Elwood Community Church, and a member of the Illinois Education Association. She was co-owner, with Marilyn Tyier of "The Whistle Stop" a craft shop in Elwood.
Funeral services were held
Friday afternoon, Aug. 29, 1980 at
Elwood Community Church with
Rev. James Offrink officiating.
Julia Martin was organist. Kelso
Sharp sang "How Great Thou
Art". Interment was at Maple Hill
Cemetery.
Under the leadership of Florence Dunbar, the women of the church served lunch after the services.
