OZARK - Vernon L. "Bub" Horn, 48, died at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, in Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
Bud was born Oct. 6, 1961, in Harrisburg. He was the son of Vern Horn and Barbara (Mahoney) Horn.
Bub was united in marriage to Amber (Trover) on July 13, 1991, in New Vision Church near Ozark. She survives.
Bud was a 1979 graduate of Vienna High School.
Bud was employed by Illinois Department of Corrections at Shawnee Correctional Center since November 1984.
He started his career as an officer, was promoted to sergeant and had attained the rank of lieutenant.
He was also a former tactical response team member, training coordinator, hostage negotiator and executive vice president of Local 3605.
Bud was a former New Burnside Village Board member. He was a former member of New Simpson Hill School Board.
He had also served as chairman of the bond referendum committee and was instrumental in the construction of the New Simpson Hill School.
Bud coached boys and girls basketball at New Simpson Hill for several years. In addition, he coached a second and third grade instructional basketball program. He also coordinated the "Lady Diamonds" traveling basketball team.
Bud was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed horses.
Bud attended New Burnside Community Church.
Other survivors include his son, Jacob Horn of Ozark; a daughter, Emily "Emmy" Horn at home in Ozark; his father, Vern Horn of New Burnside; three sisters, Cyndi Jennings and her husband, Eric, of Vienna,
Karen Horn and her husband, Danny, of Creal Springs and Cathy Bundren and her husband, Glen, of Gary, Ind.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry and Cena Trover of Ozark;
a sister-in-law, Laura Alsip and her husband, Chad, of Ozark; two brothers-in-law, Kevin Trover and his wife, Tatia, of Herrin and Curt Summers of St. Louis; aunts; uncles, nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; and many dear friends.
In addition to his mother, Bub was preceded in death by an infant brother, Vern Horn Jr.; and a niece, Allie Bundren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, in New Simpson Hill School, with Tim Blankenship and Scott Sparks officiating. Burial will be in New Burnside Cemetery.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the school.
