Martin was the son of Jakob Pedersen and Inger Johannesdatter. He was born in Grue, Finnskogen, Hedmark, Norway on Lønhaugen Farm. Martin came to America in 1898, at the age of 18, he stayed with his brother, Axel, in Spicer, Minnesota until 1906. While in Minnesota he worked on the Railroad and in Lumber camps.
In 1906, his brother Axels family moved to a homestead in Burke County, (Powers Township) southwest of Lunds Valley, North Dakota. It was a quarter section, about 160 acres. Martin, homesteaded 80 acres nearby and "batched it". Then, he added more land to the original 80 acres.
On December 13, 1910 Martin ended his batcheor days by marrying Agnes Hendrickson, who lived on a farm just to the south of him. They had ten children. (see Agnes)
Martin became the LAST of the Norwegian born Jacobsons in America!
In 1948 they retired from farming and moved to Stanley. Agnes passed away in 1966 and Martin made his home with his daughter, Adele, until moving to the Bethel Retirement Home in March 1976. He celebrated his 95th birthday at the Home on June 15, 1978 and passed away in July of the same year.
