James Burton Holman was the son of John Holman who was born December 25, 1736 in Goochland,Virginia and died August 1833 in Hempstead County, Arkansas and is buried in the Old Pioneer Cemetery. This cemetery is located in the Old Washington State Park. His grave is marked with a Revolutionary War headstone. He served in Captain Yoe's Company of the Virginia Militia in the American Revolutionary War. John Holman is listed as a Daughters of the American Revolution Patriot. His wife was Elizabeth Burton. James Burton Holman married Rebecca Ventrees McNeil September 18, 1805. After her death in 1808, he married Rebecca Tong April 20, 1809. Lamar County Marriage Book 2, page 242 shows James Holman married Esther C. Mack on 19 Jan 1858. James and Rebecca Tong Holman moved to Texas in abt 1840 and were citizens of the Republic of Texas. James Burton Holman is listed as a citizen of the Republic of Texas by The Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
