This memorial marker located in the Camp Alcorn Confederate Cemetery section of Riverside Cemetery. His first initial is in error on this marker.

Thomas Jordan Epperson was born in Georgia. His family lived in Smith County, Texas during the 1860 Census. He enlisted in the Confederate Army in Marshall Texas on October 2, 1861. He died less than 3 monts later of disease in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. His remains were returned to his family in Texas for burial. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Tyler, Texas. In the winter of 1861-1862, over 300 Confederate Soldiers died of measles, typhoid fever, pneumonia and other diseases here at Camp Alcorn in Hopkinsville. Some of the dead were taken home by relatives for burial in local family cemeteries.
