St. Clair County
Rita was born on April 20, 1920 to Anna Dolecki & John Wroblewski in Detroit. Rita passed away on July 3, 2008 at St. John River District Hospital, in St. Clair, Michigan.
Rita married Frank Gnaster on February 19, 1944 in Sweetest Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan.
Rita was a lifelong member of Sweetest Heart of Mary Catholic Church and St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church.
She was active in the Jackowo Social Club at St. Hyacinth. I believe she was one of the founding members.
She lived almost her whole life in Poletown, leaving only after her beloved Frenchie died. She fell ill for a short period of time and moved in with daughter Alice and son-in-law Bob in St. Clair. After her health was better, she decided to stay in St. Clair.
Even though she moved so far from St. Hyancinth, she still continued to be a faithful and very active parishioner, just like when she lived on Farnsworth just down the street from the Church.
Beloved sister of Josephine Wroblewski Abel, Marie Wroblewski Cenowa, Chester Wroblewski, Evelyn Wroblewski Warmuskerken, Bernadine F. Wroblewski, Clarence Wroblewski, and Alfred Wroblewski.
She was also predeased by three infant siblings: Frank Wroblewski, Eleanor Wroblewski, and Anna Wroblewski.
Beloved Mother of Michael (Linda) Gnaster, Alice (Bob) Conrad, and Frank Gnaster Jr.
Beloved Grandmother of Lori (Michael) Eiselstein, Michael (Christine) Gnaster, Lisa Gnaster (Frank Herreth), Tracy Gnaster & Amy Gnaster.
Great grandmother of 8.
Rita was the granddaughter of Polish immigrants Anna Kalinowski and Pawel Dolecki.
Her paternal grandparents were Mary Gurnicz and Mattias Wroblewski of Poland.
Great granddaughter of Jan & MaryAnna Dolecki.
Funeral service 11 AM on Monday, July 7, 2008 at St. Hyancinth Catholic Church, 3151 Farnsworth, Detroit, with the Rev. Janusz Iwan officiating.
Visitation will be at 10:30 AM at St. Hyancinth.
Arrangements by L.C. Friederichs & Son, St. Clair.
I remember when I was a little girl and we lived on Farnsworth, across the street from Rita & Frenchie.
I used to like to go and sit on Rita's porch with her in the evenings.
I still have the Mrs. Beasley doll she made/gave to me when I was a little girl.
Recently, Rita was one of my biggest sources of family information & memories.
My Daddy & Rita were the inspiration for my book about our family that I have started. Sadly, she never got to see anything other than research stuff I found.~
The Szczepankowski family lived next door to the Gnaster family in what was the original Wroblewski (my great Aunt Anna & great Uncle John-Rita's parents) family home where all 8 Wroblewski kids were raised. When Auntie Anna died, Frieda & Julian Szczepankowski bought the house from the family & then became family to all of us. That's how it was in the "Old Neighborhood".
