Robert Bigliano, age 78 passed peacefully at home on May 2, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in New York City to the late Augusta and Albert Bigliano. A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Rutgers University class of 1951, he was also a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. He earned his MBA from the University of Delaware in 1969. Robert honorably served in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict as a second lieutenant. He was married to Angela Bartolucci on November 1, 1953 in New York City. A career employee of EJ DuPont de Nemours for 35 years, his professional work included research and development at the Experimental Station, advances in medical instruments at Glasgow and numerous management positions at Barley Mill and Concord Plaza. His work life contributions led him to be involved in the development of patents for medical devices that continue to positively impact the lives of others. Upon retirement he was involved in consulting with various businesses as well as software development in futures trading. Throughout his life his entrepreneurial spirit pervaded everything he did - he loved to tinker. Robert was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary and served as a Lector and Eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Schola Cantorum Choir and in recent years sang with the St. Joseph's on the Brandywine Choir. He was an active volunteer in numerous organizations throughout this community including: Emmanuel Dining Room, Delaware Hospice and The Grand Opera House. He had a passion for cooking and all its' techniques. He loved meeting and talking with local chefs and spending endless hours in the kitchen with his family. His zest for life also included membership in the Porsche Club of America and the Brandywine Motor Sports Club. He participated in and organized many local road rallies with his navigator in life - his wife, Angela.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Angela; his son and wife Richard and Kathy; his daughter, Victoria, and his son and wife Thomas and Sharon, as well as his 3 grandchildren, Matthew, Michael and Nicholas, his sister and her husband Gloria and James Edwards. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
We would like to thank all of our friends and neighbors who provided their love and support over these last few months.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday morning at 11: 30 am, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 470l Weldin Road, Liftwood, Wilmington. Entombment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30-11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Delaware Hospice,1096 Old Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19713; or the Emmanuel Dining Room, 121 N. Jackson St., Wilmington, DE 19805.
