Mr. Lawrence M. Bobon, Sr. ("Larry"), age 62, of New Castle, DE, died on Monday, April 20, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
Born in Chester, PA on August 23, 1946, Larry was a son of the late George W. Bobon and Marion D. Fromal Bobon. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. A microbiologist by profession, he was employed with Riverside Hospital in Wilmington for 35 years and was named "Laboratorian of the Year" in 1992. Larry was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima parish. He enjoyed raising tropical fish and was an avid sports fan throughout his life, especially of his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles. He shared his love of sports as a coach in both the New Castle County flag football league and Suburban Little League baseball during his children's youth. He was a good friend and mentor, as well, to several generations of children in his neighborhood, always maintaining "an open door policy" for any child in need of his advice, help, or a sympathetic ear.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Georgie Bobon. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Anna Marie Shoemaker Bobon; 3 children, Mike Bobon and wife, Kathy, of Middletown, DE; Dave Bobon and wife, Wendy, of Middletown, DE; and Kathy Syva and husband, John, of Marshallton, DE; 2 brothers, Billy Bobon and wife, Dee, of Oxford, PA; and Bobby Bobon of Wilmington, NC; sister, Susan Lawler and husband, Sam, of Wilmington, NC; and 9 grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 7-9 pm, on Thursday, April 23, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A second visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 am on Friday, April 24, at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
