The family of Andrew J. Burkhart is sad to announce his passing on October 14, 2006 at Hospice Chaplaincy in Kennewick, WA at the age of 84. He was born in McMillin, WA to Lillie and Andrew J. Burkhart Sr. He lived most of his life in Tacoma, WA, wintering in Sun City, AZ in later years. The past two years he was a resident of West Richland, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Gloria Burkhart-Horsley. He is survived by his wife, Marcella, daughter Victoria Burkhart and granddaughter Alexandra Michel; daughter Diane Burkhart-Kiss and grandsons Andrew, Eugene and Anthony Kiss; as well as many caring relatives and friends. He was an intelligent, loving husband and father and will be dearly missed. Andrew was a B-17 bomber pilot in the European Theatre during WWII, was shot down on his 23rd mission, captured and interned in a German prison camp. He was a Flight Crew Training Instructor at the Boeing Company in Seattle for many years, a graduate of the University of Puget Sound, a member of Tacoma Elks Lodge #174, Tri-City POW Group, 100th Bomb Group Association, the DAV and various other Veterans organizations. A service with Military Honors will be held at the Tahoma National Veterans Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent, WA on Monday, October 23, 2006 at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in his name to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House, 2108 W. Entiat St., Kennewick, WA 99336, or to the American Red Cross.
