| Birth: | Feb. 18, 1919 Stockport Van Buren County Iowa, USA | | Death: | Jul. 25, 2006 West Burlington Des Moines County Iowa, USA |  Wayne Newman, 87, of Burlington, formerly of Keosauqua and Stockport, died at Great River Medical Center.
He was born near Stockport to Russell and Florence Clark Newman. On June 13, 1940, he married Laura Mae Hull in Keosauqua. She died June 9, 1991.
Mr. Newman operated an ice cream route and worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. After World War II he worked at Dorothy Brothers grocery store in Keosauqua and served as Van Buren County recorder from 1948 to 1956. He worked at banks in Hillsboro and Prairie City, was cashier of Iowa State Bank in Stockport and retired from Job Service of Iowa in Burlington where he lived since 1979.
He was a 1936 graduate of Keosauqua High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was captured by the Germans in the Battle of the Bulge. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a 61-year member of Beer-Barker Post 113, the American Legion in Keosauqua, a former member of the Burlington Moose Lodge, and member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 150 in Burlington. He also was a member of Disabled Veterans of America, Ex-POW's, and a charter member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include son, William of Burlington; daughter, Sandra Newberry of West Burlington; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one niece and nephew.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
The funeral was held at Pedrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Burial with military rites by the Beer-Baker Post followed.
