Serenely resting in his rocking chair before the fire, some time last week (nobody seems to know when) Ennos Hackman, old time citizen of Pond Creek fell asleep-the long sleep that knows no wakening. His body was discovered Sunday afternoon, about three o'clock, by John Berry, who had gone to see Mr. Hackman about getting some cherries. Mr. Berry knocked at the door, and failing to get a response, went to the back yard to look at the fruit trees. Glancing through the window, he observed Mr. Hackman in his chair and promptly investigated. As soon as he found Hackman was dead, he summoned the undertaker, and the body was prepared for burial.
The funeral was held Monday, and the body was buried in the Pond Creek cemetery, by the side of his wife, who died in 1903.
Mr. Hackman was one of Pond Creek's old settlers, having come here in 1901. He was born in Pennsylvania, April 17, 1837. At the time of his death he was 87 years, one month and thirteen days old. He leaves to mourn his death, one daughter, Mrs. Lucy N. Behrens, of Kiowa, Kansas, twelve grand children and twenty great grand children.
