Eleanor Jane Calvert Alpert, age 85, wife of the late Maxie Louis Alpert, died Friday, January 19, 2001, at Providence Hospital/Heart Institute, in Columbia, SC

She was born in Augusta, Ga., the daughter of the late Yencie Clay and Jennie Pepper Calvert. She was past owner of Alpert's, a ladies apparel shop. She was an active member of Temple Sinai of Sumter. She was a member of Temple Sinai Sisterhood, past president of the Poinsettia Garden Club, a member of Sumter DAR, Cosmopolitan Club.

Surviving are: One daughter, Cynthia Alpert Saad; two sons, Dr. Richard Louis Alpert, and Dr. Calvert Clay Alpert; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: one daughter, Maxine Calvert Alpert Kline of Columbia; and one brother, Yale Clayton Calvert of Hanahan, S.C.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 21, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Temple Sinai of Sumter, with Rabbi Schlager officiating. Burial followed at the Jewish Cemetery.

The family received friends, January 20, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Richard Alpert Jr., Alan Alpert, Dr. Bradley Campbell, Travis Cooper, Lt. Col. Jeffrey Hill and Christopher Alpert. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nathan Addlestone, Dr. Hugh Stoddard, Dr. Stan Juk, Louis Warmoth, Henry Fishburne and Robert Moses.
