Carl is the son of Thomas James and Agnes Doutre Dearden.

Carl spent the early years of his life in Garrison on his father's ranch learning the business and developing a love of animals, ranching, and the outdoors. He attended grade school in Garrison, UT then later graduated from Millard High School where he played football, a sport he enjoyed very much.

On November 14, 1949 Carl married his sweetheart Aleeda Claudine Bellander in Baker, NV. He and Aleeda made their home in Burbank, UT where he lived the rest of his life. Burbank, a place he affectionately told his family was God's country because only the chosen few got to live there. On June 13, 1962 Carl, Aleeda and their family were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and eternity.

Carl was known for his keen mind and ability to fix nearly anything. He taught himself how to perform cesarean sections on cows that could not deliver and many ranchers would bring their laboring cattle to him. Many calves were saved because of his talents. His motto was a job worth doing was worth doing right.

Carl served as President of Big Springs Irrigation Company for many years. He also served on the Board of Directors for Intermountain Farmers for 15 years, a job he enjoyed very much. He and Aleeda were able to travel to some fun places and made some wonderful friends during his years of service. Carl was instrumental in getting a television transmitter in the valley which brought many hours of enjoyment to the community.

One of Carl's greatest joys was the years he spent in the Branch Presidency of the Garrison branch. Many times Carl would relate the joy he had working with the youth in different capacities. Carl had a strong testimony of the gospel. He loved the years he served as a Stake Missionary and often recounted the blessing it had been in his life to have been ordained a seventy by Spencer W. Kimball who was at that time an apostle. He was later ordained a High Priest by Frank Dallin whose line of Priesthood authority comes from President Gordon B. Hinckley.

Carl's greatest love and joy was his family and the ranch. Many many hours were spent together herding cattle, preparing 4-H projects, roping, hunting, and being together. Nothing could bring a twinkle in his eye quicker than seeing someone from his family. He was always so loving and complimentary to his dear wife of nearly 55 years. Aleeda and Carl were a team who stood together through the good and bad-the joy and sorrow.

Carl was known for his jokes and his fun sense of humor that endeared him to people. Carl lived his life for his family. Many times he could be heard to say, "I have such a wonderful family, they are my greatest strength." He was a man of great faith relying on the Lord in his most difficult times. To his family he leaves a legacy of togetherness, honesty, faith and love. The life he lived was an example of that legacy.

Carl is survived by his wife Aleeda of Burbank, UT; children Thomas (Rhea) Dearden of Panguitch, UT, Caralee (Duane) Lyon, and Kayleen (Kip) Hansen both of Cedar City, UT, and Glen (Cheryl) Dearden of Burbank, UT; 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and sister Lorene D Wheeler of Garrison, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Glenna Claudine Dearden.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at 1:00 pm at the Garrison 1st Ward. Friends and family may visit Wednesday from 11:00 - 12:30 pm at the church.
