A man is dead as a result of being shot at least twice in the chest at 2:53 p.m. Friday at Villa Marquis II Apartments during a fight authorities believe was over custody of four children who were in an apartment there, according to Shreveport police.
Trimaine Adkins, 32, of the 2800 block of Crowns Street in Shreveport, a woman and four children were in the apartment in the 3700 block of Valley View Drive when Jonathan Swinney Adkins' wife came to their door, police Cpl. Bill Goodin, said.
Preliminary information indicates that Swinney and Adkins' wife were there to "retrieve the children, get the children or discuss custody," Goodin said.
Shots were fired as the four adults argued and fought, he said.
Adkins allegedly fired at least two shots from inside the apartment at Swinney, who was standing just outside the threshold of the apartment.
Shortly after the shooting, Swinney was pronounced dead at LSU Hospital in Shreveport.
Adkins waited for police to arrive and was taken to police headquarters for questioning, Goodin said.
He was booked into Shreveport City Jail about 8 p.m. on Friday on one count of second-degree murder.
