Police obtaining arrest warrant in overnight homicide

Shreveport police detectives said they are working to obtain a warrant for a person of interest in the overnight shooting of a man whose body was discovered at daybreak outside the apartments where he lived.

Patrol officers investigating a report of shots fired about 3:20 a.m. today at the Country Club Apartments in the 4200 block of Lakeshore Drive didn't find anything, but at daybreak a resident found the body of fellow-resident Tremaine Perkins, 24, according to Shreveport police.

This afternoon, detectives had identified a person of interest and were working to determine what motive the person might have, said Shreveport police detective Sgt. Jody Jones.

Perkins was shot at least twice in the torso with a handgun, Jones said. His body was found just before 7 a.m. in a grassy area in front of a car, just outside the perimeter of the parking lot.

Bill Goodin said the location of the body and the time of night hindered the patrol officers from locating the body immediately following the shooting.
