Sabra was the daughter of Johnnie Ruth Lockhart Newell and Hugh Lee Newell.
Her grandparents were Houston and Ida Beard Newell and Walter Lockhart and Bertie Isbell Lockhart Ruffin.
Sabra received a bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi University for Women. She also received a masters degree from the University of Alabama in special education.
She was the chairman of the Lamar County Heritage Book Committee, and past president of Lamar County Genealogical Historical Society. With Sabra's diligent work, The Heritage of Lamar County, Alabama book is of high quality. She knew the need for a comprehensive history of Lamar County and was determined that the heritage book was one that will deliver genealogical information for future generations of Lamar County, Alabama.
Sabra's interest in genealogy research started when she was 8 years old. Her mother started taking her to cemeteries across the country to work on their family tree.
Even though I never had a chance to meet Sabra, the knowledge that Sabra had aquired from her many years of genealogy research has inspired and helped me in my own family research.
