Emma Gertrude was the second child born to William Thomas Toombs and Mary Agnes Utley Toombs. Her siblings were Alfred, Minnie, Lizzie, Ethel, Alice, Lula, and Johnnie. Emma married Fred Edward Turner on August 20, 1920. They had three sons, Marvin, Melvin, and Wayne, and three daughters, Dorothy, Margaret, and Lorilla. Emma lived a long life dedicated to her children and their families. She loved having family around, and the more the merrier. There was no need for a family reunion when Emma was alive because anytime company came from out of town and instant reunion began as all the family would gather at her home. She loved to garden and always had plenty of fresh vegetables and pretty flowers surrounding her. Emma had really long hair that she wore in a bun most of the time, but at night she would take it down and braid it. Her favorite color was lavender. She was a very small lady but stood firmly for what she believed in. We all loved her and I know she was always sure of the love her family had for her. This great-grandmother of mine is another one of the many strong women that influenced my life.
