Arlene T. Browskowski, 91, of Onalaska, Wis., died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at the Bethany Riverside Nursing facility in La Crosse, Wis. She was born in Waumandee, Wis., on Oct. 5, 1917, to John and Celestine (Grossell) Hohman. She attended school at St. Boniface in Waumandee and later married Herman P. Browskowski on Nov. 27, 1934, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. They were married for 64 years. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1998.
Arlene and Herman lived in Boscobel, Wis., for many years, where she worked as a clerk in Rand's grocery store. She also worked at Advance Transformer Co. in Boscobel for 14 years, retiring in July 1983.
Arlene was a member of Immaculate Conception church in Boscobel and served on the church council board for nine years, was a member of the church's altar society and the Boscobel Hospital Auxiliary. She was also an honorary member of the Ladies Altar Society at St. Boniface in Waumandee. Arlene loved to play bingo and cards. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts and being with her family.
She moved to Onalaska in July 1993. There she belonged to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
She is survived by one son, Melvin Browskowski of Fox Lake, Wis., one daughter, Anita (Robert) Bloom of Onalaska; four grandchildren, Skylar (Mary) Browskowski of Columbus, Wis., Lance Browskowski of La Crosse, Terri (Doug) McManemy of Winona, Brandi (Dan) Durow of Lake Mills, Wis.; eight great-grandchildren, Larissa Bloom of White Bear Lake, Minn., Erin and Brita Loppnow of Winona, Desmond Johanna and Margaret Durow of Lake Mills, Kane and Wyatt Browskowski of Columbus.; and sister-in law, Lois Hohman of Bay City, Wis.; also many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents; she was preceded in death by three sisters, Amelia Smeija, Celestine Weltzien and Rosella Laehn; three brothers, Henry, John and Calvin Hohman; and two grandchildren, Todd Bloom and Rio Browskowski.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee. The Rev. Michael Klos will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be donated in Arlene's name.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Onalaska Care Center and Bethany Riverside (Light house) where Arlene was in residence for the past several years. Your kindness and compassion was greatly appreciated.
