Josephine M. Corkery

Josephine M. Corkery, 90, formerly of the High Rise Apartments, 303 W. Fifth St., Jamestown, died at 2 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 10, 1995) in Hultquist Care Center on the Educational Campus.

She was the widow of Gerald J. Corkery, who died May 28, 1951.

A native of Jamestown, she was born Dec. 21, 1904, the daughter of Robert J. and Mary Marsh Straughen.

She attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School and was a 1920 graduate of St. John's Cathedral High School in Patterson, NJ. For 14 years, she was employed as a secretary for SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Formerly she was employed by Erie Railroad, and also in the office of Dr. Homer Servoss. She was a communicant SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, past president of its Mothers Club and member of its Alter and Rosary Society and Bishops Committee. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America.

Surviving are a son, Gerald J. Corkery of Jamestown; nine grandchildren; Charlene Wiltsie of Houston, Patrick, Timothy, Gregory and Brian Wiltsie, Todd E. Corkery, all of Jamestown, Sgt. Cheryl W. Schillo, U.S. Army based in Killeen, Texas, Karry Y. Camp, of Erie and Kevin L. Corkery, a student at the State College at Potsdam; four great-grandchildren; and a sister Frances I. Smith of Lexington, Mass.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanne M. Wiltsie, who died Dec. 16, 1989; a sister, Elbertha L. Marshall and a brother, Leo D. Straughen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. John J. Mitka, pastor, will be celebrant.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Memorial Fund or SS. Peter and Paul School.
