Actor. Born Reginald Carey in Lancashire, England, he was one of the industry's most distinguished performers on stage, screen and television. He made his film debut in "The Great Game" (1930) and went on to appear in over 50 movies. For his performance as Professor Henry Higgins in the film "My Fair Lady" (1964), he received the Academy Award for Best Actor and also received the Tony Award for Best Actor for the Broadway stage version of "My Fair Lady". He also won the Tony Award for Best Actor for "Anne of the Thousand Days". His many notable film credits include "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" (1947), "The Long Dark Hall" (1951), "Cleopatra" (1963), "The Agony and the Ecstasy" (1965) and "Dr. Dolittle" (1967). For television, he appeared "The United Steel Hour", "Startime", "The DuPont Show of the Month", "BBC Play of the Month" and "Great Performances". He died of cancer in New York City, at age 82 and has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
