John T. Brock, age 83, a retired industry personal manager, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2007 from pneumonia. He was born in San Antonio, TX on July 6, 1924. He was raised in Coral Gables, FL and graduated from Ponce de Leon High School and subsequently attended Marion Military Institute in Marion, AL. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. After serving in the Navy, Mr. Brock attended Auburn University and graduated with an engineering degree. He subsequently worked for E.I. Du Pont Company in management positions in TN, NJ, DE, SC and VA. His most exciting assignments were managing an atomic and hydrogen bombs and training the first crew for the Nautilus Submarine. He later moved to Florida and worked for CF Industries in personal related fields as administrative manager and industrial relation manager at the Plant City Phosphate Complex in Hardee County. He accepted a job at Florida Tile in Lakeland, FL and served as their personal manager until he retired. Mr. Brock was definitely a people person and enjoyed the many people he hired and worked with over the years! Countless lives were affected as he interviewed and hired hundreds of people during his 41 years in the industry. He was active in the community affairs and served on many advisory boards including the Salvation Army and Girl Scouts. Mr. Brock was a very religious man and was very active in many churches that he belonged to. He loved the Bible and taught Bible classes for over 30 years. He was a shepherd Elder in the Presbyterian Church, a song leader, a lay Eucharist Minister in the Episcopal Church and a past Vestry member. But, his most exciting accomplishment in his life journey was starting a Plymouth Brethern Church in Waynesboro, VA. Mr. Brock was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church when he departed this life and joined the Church Triumphant passing this life into the next.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadette J. Brock; daughters, Becky Brock Walton, TX; Claudia Brock Anderson, IL; Patricia Brock Jordan, PA; Libby Brock Sotaski, MD; Renee Brock Barth, FL; Kathy Orndoff, TN; son, John Brightman Brock of FL; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and sister, Cynthia Junger of GA.
Viewing will be on Wednesday, October 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Health Funeral Chapel. Service will be at All Saints Episcopal Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with interment at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
