Henry Lester Shimpfky
Birth: Apr. 4, 1914
Denver
Denver County
Colorado, USA
Death: Sep. 12, 2001
Broomfield
Broomfield County
Colorado, USA

On the day of the worst attack on American soil, Henry Lester Shimpfky 87, lay close to death in the peace and quiet of his home. He was in the care of Hospice.
It was a beautiful, clear and warm morning in Broomfield, CO. My family was already grieving over losing our Patriarch, father, grandfather and spouse. Our pain was intensified and our grief grew deeper as we watched what was happening in New York and Washington, and in the sky. How do you share such consuming grief? I went to my Dad's bedside. He had always been a true patriot. He loved his country. I took his hand and told him that America had just been attacked and that many, many people had been killed. I knew that he could hear me but he could not answer. I know without a doubt, that the Lord wanted my compassinate father to be in heaven and help greet and take care of those entering heaven, especially the little children. Although he died later that night I know he got there in time to help.
!!!!!!!!!!!!THE MUSIC MAN!!!!!!!!!!!

As a young boy Lester was a member of The Highlander Boys an organization for boys started and run by George Olinger of Olinger Mortuary. This is where he learned to play the Tuba.
After graduating from high school in 1932 Lester went to the University of Colorado for one year and then to Colorado Agricultural College (CSU) at Fort Collins for one year. He earned his teaching certificate. He then joined the Civilian Conservation Corps part of the Colorado National Gaurd in 1934. In 1935 he received his first teaching job and went to Chivington CO. Here he taught Music and 7&8 grade.
Moving on in 1938 he was in Parker CO. teaching music and 7&8 grade. He also met Thelma and they were married. Now Lester went back to the University of Colorado and received his Bachelor Degree of Music Education.
He always enjoyed working with children of all ages and has influenced many young minds!
