Blanche Shepherd, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on November 28, 2006 at the age of 81. She was born in Denver, Colorado in 1925 to Harry and Gertrude Shimpfky and was the youngest of four children. Blanche was raised in Boulder and graduated from the University of Colorado in 1946 with a degree in Food & Nutrition. She continued her studies in nutrition at the University of Oregon. Blanche moved to Carmel to accept a position as dietitian at the Carmel Peninsula Hospital

In 1959, she began a career as a dietician at the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital that spanned almost 30 years. She became the head dietician and held this position until she retired in 1989.

Blanche was an active member and past Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, the American Association of University Women, and the American Dietetic Association.

Preceded in death by Brother Lester Shimpfky and Sister Florence Furr

Blanche will be dearly missed by her entire family. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Thomas F Shepherd, A son and two daughters. A sister, Dorothy Bybee of Nevada, and 8 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Struve & Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W San Luis St. 93901 in Salinas
