Son of Enos Butrick and Catharine Ann Dillivan; brother of David, Wilson, Francis, Sarah, Mary, John W., and Walter.
1850 census shows the Butrick family at Dallas, Iowa.
1856 census shows the family at Jasper, Carroll, Iowa.
Rueben Butrick married Elizabeth Ann Landers on June 19, 1859 in Jasper County, Missouri. The 1860 census shows the family living at Marion, Jasper, Missouri.
They were the parents of three daughters;
Amanda (married 1st. - Burk Johnson; 2nd. - Elbert F. Dodds)
Mary Jerusha (married Robert N. Ralston)
Elmira (married Charles E. Miller)
In stories told by Amanda Landers, sister of
Elizbeth Landers Butrick, there was an unidentified relative who was spotted by confederate soldiers taking pot shots at them. He rushed home to the Thomas Landers' farm and was hidden between the feather and straw mattresses on a bed. The enemy soon arrived and searched the farm and home, finding the man. When the snow melted that spring, a partially decomposed body was found near the river where he had been shot.
This could possibly be Rueben Butrick; he died in Nov. 1865 and his wife, Elizabeth Landers Butrick died in 1870. Their three daughters are listed on the 1870 census living with their grandfather, Thomas B. Landers of Carthage, Jasper, Missouri.
