She came from Ballymena, Ireland. It is told that she had an argument with her brother. She left Ireland without telling anyone she was going. She was 16 years old when she came to the USA alone. That would have put her here about 1872 or 1873. Apparently she had a cousin who lived in Denver,CO. His name was Richard D. Beckett.
Anna was a Domestic servant when she lived in Chicago. In 1880 she was 23yrs and living with a family who had a son and two young daughters. She moved to Denver after she met her soon to be husband Henry L. Shimpfky. She settled in Auroria, around Cherry Creek. Here she either ran a boarding house or worked for one. She had relatives who lived back in Chicago by now because she made several trips back to visit after she met Henry, as old letters indicate.
Henry and Anna only had one son Harry Amand Shimpfky. They owned thier home at 1873 Humbolt St. Which is now underneath St. Josephs Hospital.
Harry went to visit and check on his mother every day. One morning when he went over he found that she had died in her sleep.
