He was the son of Elihu & Laurel Ward Farmer. He married Nancy F. Stewart about 1859. She was the daughter of Burrell Jackson & Elizabeth Gosnell Stewart. Frances & Nancy had no children. ____________________________________ Greenville News 26 March 1927, pg 2

Greer, March 25 - (Special) Francis M. Farmer, 86, Confederate veteran and highly respected citizen of Highland, died Friday morning at 5 o'clock at his home after an illness of five days. Mr. Farmer served the whole four years of the War Between the States. He had lived at Highland all his life. He has no living relatives, his wife having preceeded him to the grave by 18 years. Mr. Farmer was a charter member of the Highland Baptist church, and has been active in the work. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. T.E. Reid, interment in the church cemetery. The following will serve as pallbearers Milton Hall, Mike Barton, Judge Robertson, M.L. Gosnell, W.F. Cathcart and Milton Smith.
