Everly Estes Broadway, age 54, died at 7 am on Thursday, July 18, at her home in the presence of her husband and children. She had undergone treatment for cancer in the previous fifteen months, making the most of her remaining time, spending it with her family.

Everly was born in Fort Worth, TX, in 1958, to Herbert and Marie Estes. She grew up in Denver, CO, and Houston, TX, graduating from J. Frank Dobie High School in 1976. She attended Baylor University where she studied math education. She met Mikael Broadway and they were married soon after they graduated in 1980.

After gaining some teaching experience, Everly returned to school and earned a masters degree in math education from the University of Texas in Austin. After moving to North Carolina her career took off. She received a Presidential Award for teaching, became a district mathematics director for Durham Public Schools, and was named an Outstanding Young Alumna of Baylor University. Everly acquired a multi-million dollar National Science Foundation grant for curriculum reform, earned a doctorate from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and became state director for mathematics at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. In 2009 she moved to Texas to become the director of mathematics curriculum for the Texas Education Agency.

Everly is the mother of three children, David, Naomi, and Lydia, and considered them her greatest achievements. She and Mike were married for over 33 years. She has served in churches in many capacities, most recently as a Sunday School teacher, prayer team member, missionary, and vision team member at Mt. Level Missionary Baptist Church in Durham.

Everly is survived by her husband Mike Broadway; three wonderful children: David, Naomi and Lydia; her parents; her brother Eric E. Estes and her sister Ruth E. Estes; her father-in-law, W. D. Broadway and wife Hugh Delle and Mike's sister Jerene.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in honor of Everly to either of the following: to fund student scholarships for the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America 300 Hawthorne Lane, Suite 205, Charlotte, NC 28204-2434; or to assist young people attending college through the Albert E.
