Cresaptown,Maryland --- William James Frost, 61, of Cresaptown, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at WMHS-Braddock Campus.

Born Aug. 14, 1947 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William Cecil Frost and Lola Mae Buskirk Frost. Also preceding him in death is a sister, Pamela Jenks.

Mr. Frost graduated from Allegany High School in 1965. He entered the Marines in December 1965 and served until 1969. Mr. Frost served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He received three Purple Hearts and three Presidential Unit Citations and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. After being discharged from the Marine Corps, he joined the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff where he served for ten years. He was head firearms instructor for eight years. He also was a sniper for the tactical unit for seven years. After leaving the Sheriff's Department, he worked at an oil company and the SIU. Also, he worked as a heavy machine operator. He was Vice President FOP 7, VFW Post 1411 where he was commander in 1992, member of Cresaptown Eagles and Cumberland Eagles. Also at the Mountainside Marines, life member of DAV 2, life member of the Purple Heart, Firearms Safety Instructor for the State of Maryland, a member of the Democrat Club, National Rifle Association and the Sheriff's Institute, American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Lou Miller Frost, Cresaptown; a son, William James Frost Jr. and wife Stacy, Frostburg; a stepdaughter, Tori L. Baker and husband Mike, Cumberland; a stepson, James T. Speis Jr. and wife Cynthia, Bel Air; a granddaughter, Sabrina Elizabeth Frost, Frostburg; two grandsons, James Chevy Frost, Fla. and Zachary Frost, Frostburg; five step-grandsons, Brenden and Ryen Baker, Cumberland and Atticus, Griffith and William Speis, Bel Air; two step-granddaughters, Darrah and Emmaline Speis, Bel Air; two sisters-in-law, Connie Gardner and Carol Deremer, Cumberland; also surviving are his two canine companions, Lucee and Hank; also numerous friends, cousins; and a special caregiver, Bethany Williams.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown (www.scar on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the Mountainside Marines, a memorial service by the Cresaptown Eagles will follow at 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Cresaptown funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Gary Cannon officiating.

Interment will be at the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flintstone.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Sam Blume, Jimmy Smith, Rick Lohnas, C.W. Wilt, Gus Bell, Bill Fairall and Brett Ramsey.
