She was the eldest in the family and was with her parents in the first group of covered wagons on the Mormon Trail. The family would leave the church and move to California in the 1850s. Josephine married Henry Moore during the height of the Civil War. Henry was a railroad worker and died in a smallpox epidemic in 1868. The couple had one child Laura born on Christmas Day 1862. On February 20, 1870 she married William Durham, a California Rancher. They would have four children together. Josephine was severely ill with epilepsy for many years of her life. She still managed to raise her children to become productive citizens. She was loved by her family very much. She died of epilepsy and heart seizures at age 66 in 1909. William Durham followed his wife two years later.
