John E. Green, 77, of North Dartmouth, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital after a one-year illness. He was the husband of Izabel (Oliveira) Green and they would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this July.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late John and Charity Grace (Higgins) Green Jr., he had lived in Dartmouth for 51 years.
Mr. Green was a welder for 25 years for Hoit Manufacturing of New Bedford and retired in 1988.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Northern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, the American Troop Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He enjoyed gardening and various kinds of woodworking, making many pieces of furniture, toy boxes, and the like.
Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Blanche R. Perry of South Dartmouth and Jo Ann Clark of Murietta, Calif.; a brother, Raymond Green of Fairhaven; two sisters, Dorothy Philabaum and Grace Amaral. both of North Dartmouth; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Pine Grove Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Dartmouth Funeral Home of Sullivan-Waring, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth.
