Helen M. Kolz, 93, Glendale, Ariz., a town of Lanark native, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, following a short illness. A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in the town of Lanark with the Rev. Paul Vanden Hogen officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation was scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca and from 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the services. The rosary was scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Kolz was born June 30, 1906, in the town of Lanark, a daughter of the later James and Mary (Cooney) McTigue. She received a degree from Stevens Point Normal School and taught all grades in one-room schools in the Portage and Waupaca counties for many years. She was married to Bert W. Kolz on June 23, 1931, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lanark. He died in 1968 in Glendale, Ariz. After many years of farming, they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1961 where she continued to teach at Holiday Park School until retiring at the age of 70. Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen ("Fritz") Schmoldt, Glendale, Ariz.; one son, Norbert (Eileen), Waupaca; one sister, Catherine Eskritt, Stevens Point; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers and a granddaughter.
