"A benefit to the widow and children of W.A. Vache, who had died on the 10th (July, 1849) was given at the Broadway on 23 July. Vache had been advertised to appear at the National in a benefit to Purdy on July 9th. Ireland (Historian) believes he acted but the next night he was dead. A benefit for his family was given also at the National on July 31st." (Vol 5, pp 428-9 Odell)
In addition to his acting skill, Wm. A. Vache was also an accomplished artist. A portrait of Edmund Simpson, a theatrical luminary, is in the collecting of the New York City Museum and attributed to Vache. In the Harvard Theater Collection there are two portraits of contemporary actors, Scott and MacReady, also attributed to Vache.
Cause of death: Cholera
Interred in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn NY (Interred with him is a "child Vache", probably an infant. Both died of cholera.)
