David Gardner Binney, 67, husband of Carolyn Black Binney of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2008, in a local hospital. The relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service for David Binney on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 in Christ Episcopal Church at 4:00 pm. Burial will follow at West Point Cemetery, West Point, New York at a later date. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Black Binney of Mount Pleasant, SC; son, Steve and his wife Debbie of Reston, Virginia; and son, Geoff and his wife, Amy of The Woodlands, Texas and five grandchildren. He is also survived by seven brothers, three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Binney was born November 3, 1940 in Wrenthem, Massachusetts, son of the late Hank and Alyce Binney. Mr. Binney was commissioned in the Field Artillery upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1964. He deployed to the Republic of Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division in 1965. He was a Forward Observer with the 27th Infantry Wolfhound Regiment where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. Following his service in Vietnam, he served as the Aide de Camp of the Deputy Commanding General of the Test and Evaluation Command where he earned a second Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Binney resigned from the Army in 1970 to become a Special Agent in the FBI. He earned a law degree from Indiana University and in 1979, he served in the New York City field office as a supervisor in the Organized Crime Program. In addition, he served in many other leadership positions in the FBI. He was appointed Deputy Director of the FBI in 1994. He retired from the FBI to become Chief of Worldwide Security for IBM where he traveled extensively. He retired to Mount Pleasant, SC, in 2003, where he met and married Carolyn Black Binney. Dave was a wonderful husband, father and friend of many. He had a strong sense of duty and passion for everything he did and an enthusiasm for life that touched all. He will be missed by many.
