After the family returned to Menlo, Emery soon started work at the Menlo Bank and remained with them as long as the Bank was there. He was also active in the church and was a member of the choir. Along with this he served as clerk for the city council for forty years. While he and Edna had no children of their own they were both most interested in their nephews and nieces and were admired by them in return.
