It was in Fruita, Emery developed complications from measles and after a long bout with it was left with a limp which was considered to many as a handicap, but he kept active and enjoyed playing ball and tennis. Along with this he served as clerk for the city council for forty years. While he and Edna had no children of their own they were both most interested in their nephews and nieces and were admired by them in return.
