Ripley, MS - Mary Faye Patterson Hellums, 77, died on Monday, July 9, 2007 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born on October 6, 1929 to the late Robert Lafayette Patterson and Annie Irene Gregory Patterson. She was a member of Ripley First United Methodist Church. She married H. L. "Slim" Hellums on April 25, 1947. She graduated from Delta State Teachers College in 1951. She taught school at Buena Vista, Myrtle, Ashland and Falkner. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Andy Stoddard officiating. Burial will be in Oak Forest Cemetery in Randolph, MS. Survivors include two daughters, Paula Coker & husband, Larry, of Blue Springs and Cathy Waldrop & husband, David, of Pontotoc; one son, Herb Kellums & wife, Kim, of Ripley; two sisters, Emmogene Clingan of Peoria, IL and Annie Mae McCormick of Hernando; one brother, James Patterson & wife, Laura, of Pontotoc; six grandchildren, Matt Waldrop & wife, Kim, Emily Fields & husband, David, Jr., Mary Coker, Carol Coker, Ben Hellums and Wes Hellums; two sister-in-laws, Elaine Patterson and Donna Patterson; and one brother-in-law, Bill Hellums. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. L. "Slim" Hellums; her parents, Robert Lafayette Patterson and Annie Irene Gregory Patterson; two sisters, Lula Parks and Laney Reynolds; three brothers, Word Patterson, Charles Patterson and John Patterson; and two brother-in-laws, Erskine Clingan and Sam McCormick. Pallbearers will be Larry Coker, David Waldrop, Matt Waldrop, D. J. Fields, Ben Hellums and Wes Hellums. Honorary Pallbearers will be Noel Akins, John D. Gaillard, Harvey Childers, Thomas Grisham, Bobby Grisham and Victor Reaves. Ripley Funeral will be in charge of the arrangements.
