s/o James H Haynes and Elizabeth "Betsy" Dellinger
md: December 19, 1869 to Margaret Esther "Maggie" Ledford
children: Thomas Theodore b.28Mar1868 d.22Jul1873, Mary Abigail b.08Dec1871 d.10Jan1886, Francis Hulda (John Worth White), Laura Catherine, Wm. Columbus (Brentie Florence Weaver), Amanda Ella, John Wesley (Junie Lee Ingle), Charles Franklin (Rosa Bell Richey), and James Lee Haynes.


Civil War: Co I, 11th Infantry Regiment (Bethel Regiment), State Troops (Volunteers), NC. He enlisted Feb. 19, 1864 (8 days after his 18th birthday) and was wounded June 3, 1864 during the Battle of the Wilderness at Petersburg, VA. He spent about a month in the hospital at Richmond, VA then was sent home to recuperate. He returned to battle on Dec. 22, 1864, then was taken Prisoner of War on April 2, 1865 at Petersburg, VA and was later transferred to the Point Lookout, MD prison where he stayed until after the war was over. (NOTE**This R.W. Haynes is not to be confused with R. Workman Haynes from Lincolnton that died in the war-he was older..the CSA put the wrong name at R.W.'s grave.)
