Gerald Conrad Gertsch
Gerald Conrad Gertsch passed away on March 7, 2008 in Honolulu, Hawaii after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on June 17, 1941 in Midway, Utah to Joseph Daniel and Leora Morton Gertsch. He married Marilyn Kay Hanchett on June 24, 1967 and they were sealed in the Hawaiian Temple on January 7, 1968. They are the parents of five children: Geri Kay, Kevin Conrad, Gina Mae, Garth Joseph and Ginger Denise Gertsch.
Gerald graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City and received a 4 year full scholarship to BYU, but instead he went into the Navy to defend his country. He was assigned to the Nuclear Submarine USS Sculpin. He was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He taught seminary and performed genealogy and temple work. He also performed missionary services and converted a number of people into the LDS Church.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn and children Gina Mae, Ginger Denise and Garth Joseph, his mother Leora Gertsch Ward, a sister Jolene Jaster, a brother Ronald Gertsch and brothers and sisters from a previous marriage: Robert Collins, Carl Collins, Teresa Roberts, Julie Smith, Gayanne Warner and Cathy German and also 39 nieces and nephews.
He was the 1st born grandchild of Elise and Conrad Gertsch Jr. who were two of the early immigrants and settlers of Midway, Utah from Switzerland in the 1890's. He lived an honorable and unselfish life and he had a positive influence on many people. He had a good heart and did whatever he could to help others. He will be missed but never forgotten.
A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at the Swiss Chapel Stake Center, 165 North Center Street, Midway, Utah on Saturday July 19, 2008 at 12 noon. All friends and family are invited to attend.
