Eliza Norrill was born in Tennessee to John Norrill and Mary Candry. They had six known children: Frances Norrell, Eliza, Benjamin Norrill, James Norrill, John Thomas Norrill, and Amanda Norrill. It is believed, but not proved, that her father died in the late 1840s in Mississippi. Mary Candry took the family to Jackson County, Arkansas about 1850.
Eliza married John Brigham, a local doctor, in 1851. He died about 1866, and Eliza married again in 1867 to Edward Olenda Grigsby, the new docter in town. Eliza had twins (one boy & one girl)in 1871, but one died, leaving only Nettie. See more about Nettie Grigsby Miers at her burial location in Hearne, TX.
Nettie married William Burwill Miers in 1893 and accompanied William back to Ennis, TX. They later moved to Hearne where William eventually became the Station Manager of the local railroad station.
Eliza died in DeView. In the late 1950s, my dad, Wesley Scott Miers and his sister, Leah Miers Jarrett, returned to the McCrory/Deview area. They and their mother, Nettie, had stayed in Deview for that last year with Eliza to care for her. They always talked of that year in Deview whenever they visited together. When they visited the cemetery, they discovered that a gravestone had never been put in place for Eliza. They then made plans for one for her and that is why Eliza has a much more modern monument than others who died in the early 1900s.
