MOUNT OLIVE - Philip Glen Shreve, 70, of Mount Olive died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 22, 1938, in Litchfield, the son of the late Glen Shreve and Harriet Plopper. He married Donna Becker on Jan. 25, 1958, in Litchfield. He later married Marcia Brown on Nov. 15, 1985, in Carlinville; both marriages ended in divorce.

Philip attended Mount Olive public schools and graduated from Mount Olive High School with the class of 1956.

He worked at Phillip Hano Co. in Mount Olive for 15 years. He joined the Illinois State Police from 1972 to 1993, when he retired as a master sergeant. He also served at chief of police for the city of Mount Olive for 13 years until his retirement in September 2007.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dogs, gardening, bowling and NASCAR. He especially loved spending time with his grandsons.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961.

He is survived by his mother, Harriet Shreve of Mount Olive; a daughter, Connie (Jim) McDonald of Litchfield; a son, Randy Philip Shreve of Litchfield; a brother, Richard (Cyndi) Shreve of Lady Lake, Fla.; three sisters, Dianna (Ramon) Rilling of Marshall, Texas, Donna (Chuck) Mander-Fiser of Milan and Ruth (Leroy) Traylor of Litchfield; two grandchildren, Ryan Streeb of Mount Olive and John McDonald of Litchfield; and long-time companion, Judy Hutchins of Mount Olive.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Shreve; a sister, Estella Marit; and a brother, John Shreve.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, until the time of services at 3 p.m. at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mount Olive. Burial will be at Mount Olive City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Olive Cemetery or Mount Olive Ambulance.
