FULLERTON, CALIF. Services for Minnie Carlene "Toots" Hillsberry Houston, 89, were at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2008, at McAuley & Wallace Chapel. Interment followed in Memory Garden Memorial Park, Brea, Calif.
Born Dec. 14, 1918, in Durwood to James William "Jim" and Nellie Collins Hillsberry, Minnie died on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Brighton Garden, Yorba Linda, Calif. Minnie married Hans Houston in 1937. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Dennis Houston, sisters, Dovie Hensley, Alma Hatley, and Beulah Tibbs, brothers, Fred, Abe, Bill, and Herb Hillsberry.
Minnie was raised in the Durwood area and attended the old Durwood school. She graduated from Dickson High School in 1935. After marriage, she moved with her husband to California. She worked for Bank of America for many years. She began work as a records clerk for the Fullerton, Calif. police department on Jan. 14, 1968 and retired Nov. 2, 1984.
Survivors include a step-son, Fred Houston, Aurora, Mo.; nieces, Ruth Ann King, Judy Green, Orlena Jimanez, Jean Pouvy, and Alycia Mayo; and a nephew, Buzzy Hatley
