Elisha W. Dodson was the Pope County Sheriff during the Pope County Militia War. He was killed by John F. Hale on February 18, 1873 in Dover, Arkansas.
Elisha W. Dodson was one of the sheriffs that was killed during the reconstruction period after the Civil War, it was known as the Pope County Militia War. Elisha Dodson was shot in the back from ambush as he boarded a train bound for Little Rock. Elisha lived for three days. Before he died he said of the man who shot him, "I hope he makes it into Heaven."
