Major League Baseball Player. Played Major League baseball as an outfielder for 12 seasons (1899 to 1910) with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Braves and Chicago Cubs. In 1903 his Pirates played against the Boston Pilgrims (now called the Red Sox) in the innaugural World Series. When the very first Series pitch was thrown by pitcher Cy Young, Ginger Beaumont was at the plate. He went on to bat .265 with 9 hits, one triple and 1 RBI in 34 at-bats as Boston defeated the Pirates 5 Games to 3.
During the span of 1900-1904, Ginger Beaumont won the National League batting championship in 1902 with a mark of .357, led the League in hits in three seasons, scored at least 100 runs four times, leading the league in this category once. He was also renowned for his speed in the field and on the basepaths.
In 1910 while in his only season with the Cubs, he helped them to the World Series, and made 3 pinch-hitting appearences as the Philadephia A's beat the Cubs 4 Games to 1. He had career totals of 1,483 Games Played, 1,759 Hits, 39 Home Runs, 425 RBIs and a career .311 Batting Average. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
